$50,000 Grant Aims At Reducing Traffic Deaths In Lorain County
Lorain County Public Health received a $50,000 grant to reduce traffic injuries and deaths in Lorain County.
LORAIN, OH — A $50,000 grant will be used to reduce traffic deaths and injuries in Lorain County.
The Ohio Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety (OTSO) awarded the $50,000 grant to Lorain County Public Health on Monday. The money will be used in federal fiscal year 2021.
“We’ll continue to work with partners in the Safe Communities Coalition, and use the grant funds to advance traffic safety efforts,” said David Covell, health commissioner for Lorain County Public Health. “Together, we’ll work to save lives and prevent injuries by promoting seat belt use, motorcycle safety, and reducing impaired driving.”

The Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition is composed of health care agencies, law enforcement, local businesses, insurance agencies and Lorain County residents. The groups work together to find ways to cut back injuries and deaths on Lorain County roads.

The coalition also includes the Lorain County Fatality Review Committee, which examines why fatal crashes occur and then identifies trends and countermeasures to intervene in possible future crashes.
