Here are the top four stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:
- Congratulations to the Avon Lake National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! According to a Facebook post from Avon Lake City Schools, nationally, the list of 16,000 students will compete for 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million offered next spring. Students are selected based on their scores in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, taken as high school juniors. To qualify as a finalist, students and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application that includes the student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. Avon Lake's four finalists are; Coryn Cummings, Ryan Jung, Annelise Klenz and Camille Rasch. Congratulations students! Great job! (Avon Lake City Schools via Facebook)
