• Latta announces academy nominations « The VW independent (thevwindependent.com) — Two Avon High School students, Michele Smith and Trevor Grzelak, have been nominated by Congressman Bob Latta for potential appointments to U.S. service academies, including the Air Force Academy and West Point. Their nominations place them among 18 standout students from Ohio’s Fifth District now moving forward in the competitive academy interview and admissions process.
   

• Matesa Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American (goduquesne.com) — An Avon native, Duquesne standout Muir, has been honored as a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American after a strong season on the field and in the classroom. Alongside record-setting teammate Matesa, she helped power Duquesne women’s soccer to one of its best seasons ever, giving local fans a hometown player to cheer at the Division I level.
