Here are the top stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

  1. The Lake Erie Crushers are on the hunt for a new director/field manager. According to cleveland.com, "Team officials recently announced that Cam Roth, director of baseball operations, will not return to the team in 2023. “The Crushers want to thank Cam for all of his hard work to make the 2022 season exciting, right until the final weekend,” Tom Kramig, Crushers co-owner, said in a press release. “We believe Cam is an outstanding manager and we wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors.”' (cleveland.com)
  2. According to neosportsinsiders.com, the Avon Eagles are ranked number four for week six of Northeast Ohio Football Teams. The site stated, "the Eagles took care of the visiting Pioneers 48-6 to improve to 4-1. Avon finished the game with a 34-0 shutout after leading 14-6 midway through the third. Sam DeTillio finished with 184 yards and a touchdown and Jakorion Caffey had 70 yards and two scores. This Friday the Eagles host North Ridgeville (4-1) in a Southwestern Conference showdown." Congratulations Eagles! Keep up the good work! (neosportsinsiders.com)
  3. More eyes are on the case of the child who ended up with a broken leg allegedly at the hands of a daycare worker. According to WDTN.com, "Thursday, Emily Coghlan walked into Avon Lake Municipal Court for a hearing. Police said she worked in a room with toddlers at the Sweet Kiddles Child Care. But, investigators said she picked up a child by the arm, swung him out of the way and dropped him, causing his right leg to break. The daycare fired Coghlan and she faces criminal charges of child endangering and assault. She waived a hearing, so that means the case will now go before a Lorain County grand jury. That could lead to more charges. In court Thursday, the tiny victim and his parents watched. “It’s extremely important,” said the child’s mother, Nadine Porcelli. “These kids were there for months and years. They’re not getting the justice they need yet and hopefully, now they will.” Meanwhile, Avon Lake police said they are looking at daycare video from more than just the day of the incident that led to charges. Police said they’re taking a closer look for anything else “suspicious” beyond the case that started the investigation. "(WDTN.com)
