Avon Lake High Football Nominated For Browns Game Of The Week
The team could receive extra attention -- and money -- for their performance this week.
AVON LAKE, OH — The Avon Lake Shoremen football team could soon find itself competing for a special award from the Cleveland Browns.
Avon Lake's game against Elyria High on Friday is nominated for Cleveland Browns High School Football Game of the Week. If the game is selected, the Browns will cover the game on their website and social media and the winning team will receive $2,500 for its football program. Fans can vote for their school to be picked online.
The Shoremen are currently 5-2 on the season. They smashed the Steele Comets last week, winning the game 52-0. However, they're more likely to face a stiff challenge from the Elyria Pioneers this week. The Pioneers are 4-3 on the season after they similarly trounced North Ridgeville (final score, Elyria — 30, North Ridgeville — 0).
