Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:
- The holidays are fast approaching and Avon Lake Police Department's collection for Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services and Lorain County Safe Harbor / Genesis House is in full swing! ALPD recently posted on its Facebook page, "kids in our community need warm coats and a holiday gift to open. Families need a little help putting food on the table for Thanksgiving. Individuals and families escaping domestic violence need essentials. If you are fortunate enough to be able to, please check out these wish lists for items needed to help our community and pick up an item or two the next time you're shopping. We have collection bins in our lobby available 24/7. If you find yourself in need of assistance or know someone who does, please reach out to these organizations: Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services 440-933-5639 www.aalcrs.org Lorain County Safe Harbor / Genesis House 440-244-1853 www.genesishouseshelter.org" (Avon Lake Police Department via Facebook)
- Avon takes the win against North Royalton for a 35-14 win. According to cleveland.com, "[the] Eagles cleaned things up in the final two-quarters of the game and advanced to the Region 6 semifinals with a 35-14 victory over No. 9 seed North Royalton Friday night at Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium. Avon coach Mark Elder said, “North Royalton came in and played their guts out and gave us a fight and a battle, and I’m just glad to advance, but at this stage, that’s what it’s all about – it’s not about style points, it’s about getting to the next round."'(cleveland.com)
- On November 10, learn more about future school facilities in Avon Lake. According to cleveland.com, "the Avon Lake School District will hold a community forum on potential facility upgrades at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Commons at Avon Lake High School. At the forum, the public will have a chance to ask questions about the future of the district’s school buildings. The biggest projects to be discussed are the replacement of the PreK-8 schools. Also under the preliminary plan, a current grades 7-8 building would become a grades 6-8 school, and some other schools would be transitioned to PreK-5 buildings." (cleveland.com)

From my notebook:
- Cleveland Clinic: "The short answer? Not really. It’s often recommended that you should stop drinking water two hours before going to bed. This way, you’re not flooding your body with extra fluids that may cause an unwanted trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night.💧If you do need to have some water before you hit the hay — whether it’s because your mouth is feeling parched or you need to take nightly medications — a little bit is still OK." (Cleveland Clinic via Instagram)
- FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc.: "Fosters needed, (or adopters)! The more dogs we can get into foster homes, the more dogs we can save from death row! " (FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc. via Facebook)
- Avon Lake Police Department: "Week nine of the Community Police Academy, and our students learned about evidence collection, evidence processing, and crime scene processing. They also tried their hand at lifting fingerprints." (Avon Lake Police Department via Facebook)
