  1. According to the Chronicle Telegram, "Scoring the first 10 points is a good way to start any game. Avon Lake did just that Tuesday night and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire and going up by as many as 27 in a 69-48 win over Lorain in its home opener. Days after holding Brunswick to just 52 points, Avon Lake improved to 2-0 and has big plans this year with nine returning seniors who showed off a suffocating defense against the Titans. “Defense is our key and they have bought in completely to defend,” Shoremen coach Eric Smith said. “We have eight guys who just don’t care about anything other than getting out there and going after people and playing hard.” Avon Lake also showed off its ability to mix-and-match on the offensive end with someone different always seeming able to put up points." Congratulations athletes! (Chronicle Telegram)
  2. Residents take note! According to WJW Fox 8 News Cleveland, "There has been an unusual spike in stolen checks from mailboxes has several police departments reminding residents to be vigilant about check washing thefts. The United States Postal Inspection Service describes the scam as incidents where payee names and dollar amounts are changed and fraudulently deposited. “There has been an uptick in this type of case around the Greater Cleveland area,” said Avon Lake Detective Justin Ludwig about stolen checks. “It appears those mailboxes were targeted because their red flags were up and people knew there was mail in the mailbox.” A police report shows an Avon Lake victim reported a check written for more than $14,000 stolen.
According to the police report, the victim witnessed a man drive up and take the item from the mailbox. The report states police stopped a man from Georgia shortly after in connection with the theft but could not locate the stolen check." (WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland)
  3. Even though springtime is a ways off, the Avon Little League is thinking ahead. Registration is opening soon and the league is always looking for volunteer coaches. Is this something you might want to help out with? If your schedule does not allow you to coach, there are many other ways to help by attending a board meeting. The next meeting will be held sometime in January with the date to be announced soon! Look out for updates! Hope to see you all out there on the field this spring!
