🌱Carrying Firearms? What Should You Tell Police + Jaycox Road Work

Hello again, neighbors! It's Monday in Avon-Avon Lake and I'm back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in the community today.

First, today's weather:

Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

1. Adjust your schedule and driving route as needed because work is set to begin on the Jaycox Road Resurfacing Project today. According to the City of Avon, the project location will be from Mills Road to Schwartz Road and is expected to be completed in 60 days. The work zone will be a moving zone with traffic maintained with one lane passable. Delays are expected and drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes. All residents on Jaycox Road will be notified if their driveway access will be affected. (City of Avon)
2. Get ready for the big celebration! The city of Avon, in conjunction with the Lake Erie Crushers, will be firing off two firework displays. They are planned for after the baseball games July 2-3 at 9:30 p.m. at Mercy Health Stadium, 2009 Baseball Blvd. The July 3 display is presented by the city. Tickets for the games are still available. While you can still see the fireworks from outside the stadium, what better way to celebrate the holiday than watching America’s pastime? (Cleveland.com)
3. As of June 13, Ohio Senate Bill 215 has become a law. It allows “Qualified Adults” to lawfully carry a concealed firearm (handgun) without a permit. This law does not apply to the transport of rifles, shotguns, etc. The Avon Police have put out a message via a Facebook post to help explain what this Bill means if you have to interact with law enforcement. The post states, "Well, if you are carrying a concealed firearm you are not required to inform law enforcement of the weapon during an interaction, however you do have to accurately answer if you are asked by law enforcement about carrying a concealed firearm. So, if you are asked about possessing a concealed firearm by one of our fine officers, it’s just to make sure that everyone has a safe interaction. Also if you would like to notify them that you are carrying a concealed weapon before they ask, that is also appreciated.
