Crushers Add Three Home Games, Tickets $1

Area baseball fans have the chance at one of the best bargains of the summer.

In a surprise move, the ' series against the London Rippers has been moved from London, Ontario, to in Avon after the Rippers organization folded.

Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee told the London Free Press Tuesday night that the team will go on as a travel team formed by the other team owners. The former Rippers players are free agents and can either stay with the new travel team, or try to get on a roster elsewhere.

There will be a doubleheader Thursday, with games at 4 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. (or a half-hour after the first game ends, whichever is later), and a game at 7:05 p.m.

And the bargain part? Tickets for each of the three games are only $1 apiece!

That price includes home box seats, field box seats, and general admission seating. All home box and field box seats will be assigned as they normally are. Full season ticket holders are guaranteed their regular tickets for free, and mini-plan ticket holders are guaranteed tickets in their section for free. 

Seating in the Terrace Tables section will be $20 per table.

Tickets will be valid for both games on Thursday.

Eats are cheap, too. Hot dogs, draft beer and fountain drinks will all be $1 apiece on Thursday.

Friday's game, in honor of the visiting team being from Canada, is Hockey Night at the stadium. Fans are encouraged to wear hockey jerseys and t-shirts, and there will be hockey-themed games and activities throughout the game. There will also be a happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m. with $1 fountain drinks and draft beers at the concession stands.

There will be no fireworks after Friday's game.

The Rippers had been plagued with problems in their inaugural season. Their nickname and logo, which appeared to be playing off serial killer Jack the Ripper, sparked controversy. Attendance had been poor, and the team is not able to sell beer at its stadium. Last week, the team was evicted from its store site for not paying rent.
