Damaging Winds, Severe Storms Possible Friday In Lorain County

As fall weather sweeps into northern Ohio, it will ride a wave of possibly destructive storms.

AVON LAKE, OH — Severe thunderstorms could form throughout Lorain County on Friday.

The National Weather Service warned that "damaging wind gusts" could wreak havoc on the region as storms form. There is a 60-percent chance of storms developing during the day, and a 90-percent chance of showers overnight.

"There is a lesser chance for a tornado or two and hail. Heavy rain is also possible which could lead to isolated flooding," the agency said.

Temperatures have been unseasonably warm for Northeast Ohio this month. Even as October wore away, highs continued to touch the 80s with muggy, humid conditions a near constant. Friday's storm will represent a shift.

Current forecasts show the weekend's highs will be in the 50s and 60s, a new normal that will largely persist through the next work week. If you've been craving sweater weather, you may finally get it.
