1. Shoreman baseball graduate Dominic Poltrone had been named the Lorain County Mr. Baseball Player of the Year. “I didn’t know that anything else was going to be called after the county awards. It was kind of a shock to me. But as soon as they started listing off the stats, I kind of got an idea," Poltrone said, according to an article in The Morning Journal. Congratulations Dominic! 2. According to an article in the Morning Journal, "The developer who took over ownership of the Avon Lake power plant, fired back against criticism levied against it last week by union officials during a protest alleging that the Avon Lake Environmental Group LLC was not using Ohio labor in the removal of asbestos from the plant and also was not following proper safety protocols. '“Avon Lake Environmental Redevelopment Group LLC (ALERG) has always made it a priority to maintain a safe work environment and hire local Ohio workers, subcontractors and vendors,”' the company said in a statement released June 10. They added, “ALERG had an open bid process for the work taking place at the plant and we’ve continued to talk to local unions throughout this process. We’re focused on providing maximum benefits to all members of the community, providing increased economic activity and jobs while sustainably remediating the site for the betterment of the environment now and in the future.”' (The Morning Journal)
