Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:
- Avon is asking for Lorian County commissioners for money from the American Rescue Plan Act funds in the amount of $1 million. According to the Mourning Journal, "the city of Avon is asking Lorain County commissioners for up to $1 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds for proposed facility upgrades to the city’s recreation complex. The city said Oct. 12 during the commissioner's meeting it also would contribute $1 million to what would be a $2.9 million improvement project. The complex features the 5,000-seat Mercy Health Stadium, home to the Lake Erie Crushers baseball club of the Frontier League, the French Creek YMCA and T3 Performance, a sports training complex. Avon kicked off the project this fall by installing a new synthetic field at the baseball stadium at a cost of $650,000." (subscription The Morning Journal)
- According to Spectrum News 1, "All six teams involved in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Game of the Week on Spectrum News 1 are almost certainly headed to the playoffs. They have a 37-11 combined record. In Northeast Ohio, Olmsted Falls (6-2) heads to Avon Lake (7-1), with both teams trying to secure home field advantage for the first round in Region 6 (Division II). The Bulldogs are currently ninth, while the Shoremen reside sixth. In the Southwestern Conference standings, both sit behind Avon, which is 5-0 in league play. That’s Avon Lake’s lone loss, while Olmsted Falls was also defeated by defending Division III state champion Chardon in the season opener. The Bulldogs have won six of the previous regular season meetings, while the Shoremen claim a 44-28 playoff victory in 2018. All-time, Avon Lake has a 15-10 advantage since 1999. Each school claims a Division II state title this century, with Olmsted Falls winning it all in 2000 (ironically, their only loss was the Avon Lake), and the Shoremen were the 2003 champs." Good luck! (Spectrum News 1)
- Making the list at#2 of the Girls cross country Top 20, Avon's Eagles are doing great. According to cleveland.com this season "The Eagles are on a mission to atone for missing a state berth by one place last year. Of course, having two dynamite freshmen step into the top three doesn’t hurt." Great job girls. Congratulations!(cleveland.com)
