  1. Recognized for their Week 8 performances of the high school football season both Wade Nelson of Avon Lake, and Sam DeTillio of Avon are in the running for player of the week. According to cleveland.com, "Nelson, a junior, scored Avon Lake’s opening TD and rushed for 111 yards on 24 carries in a 14-13 win at Elyria and DeTillio threw five TD passes with 283 yards on 15-of-23 passing in the Eagles’ 35-7 win vs. Berea-Midpark." According to cleveland.com, "New Crushers manager, schedule released: The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Akron Children’s Hospital, recently announced Jared Lemieux will be the team’s new director of baseball operations and field manager for the 2023 Frontier League season. Lemieux spent the past two seasons coaching with the New Jersey Jackals, and has been involved in professional baseball, either playing or coaching since 2006. Lemieux spent five seasons playing in the CAN-AM and American Association while earning his master’s degree from Springfield College. He has coached at the college level and spent five seasons coaching with the Ottawa Champions in the CAN-AM League, winning a championship in 2016, before joining the Jackals in 2021, according to information released by the Crushers organization."
