Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:
- According to the Avon Lake website, Lorain County has an auxiliary deputy sheriff opening. Sheriff Phil R. Stammitti is now accepting applications for the position of auxiliary deputy sheriff. Volunteer officers perform a wide variety of duties, both at the sheriff’s office and for special events in the community. For more information and an application, visit https://loraincountysheriff.com/sheriffs-auxiliary/." (The City of Avon Lake)
- Residents in Avon Lake and the surrounding area now have additional walking trails to add their options as the new trails are open at Weiss Field. The 79-acre park now offers nature lovers the opportunity to stroll through the winding trails and enjoy being outside. With help from resident Kathleen Satullo who according to information from the city and cleveland.com, built the original bridge on the trails, and the Public Works Department, who added mulch to the trails, as well as a wildflower garden, the trail system is now ready for visitors. - Qamar Akee Williams, 26, of Avon, known as Rapper Q Money, was found guilty of murder on Friday for the 2019 fatal shooting of Calvin "Scotty" Chappell, 24, of Euclid, according to a statement from the office of the DeKalb County District Attorney. According to cleveland.com, "The incident happened on September 15, 2019. Williams was charged with malice murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to court documents.
