Loud Noises At Schwartz Park Were Fireworks, Police Say
Social media and Patch readers wanted to know what caused the "explosions" at Schwartz Park in Avon on Monday night. The answer: fireworks.
AVON, OH — Fireworks erupted in the sky over Schwartz Road Park on Monday night. The popping explosions drove conversation on social media, with some residents wondering if they were hearing gunshots.
Officers were sent to investigate the noises at 11:26 p.m., according to Avon Police Captain Larry Fischbach. Police found discarded fireworks packaging and no signs of gunshots or vandalism, he said.
Before midnight, a second call about explosions came from around St. Mary Parish, on Stoney Ridge Road. Again, officers found remnants of fireworks packaging in the parking lot. Police believe the same person or persons set off fireworks at both locations.

Officers have not identified anyone involved in setting off the fireworks, but there was no sign of property damage or violence at either Schwartz Park or St. Mary's.
What concerned Fischbach and Avon police about the fireworks situation on Monday night were the numerous people who appeared to believe the fireworks were actually gunshots — but didn't contact police. Fischbach emphasized that if people "see something," or in this case hear something, "they have to say something," for police to investigate.
