1. The Southwestern Conference released its Volleyball Athlete of the Week for September 26 – October 1. Congratulations to Rachel Meyer an Avon Lake High School sophomore who was named Volleyball Athlete of the Week. According to swcohio.net, "Rachel complied 168 assists, two solo blocks, 31 block assists, 43 digs, 11 aces and seven kills in five matches. Four of the matches were wins against state-ranked teams." 2. Pet lovers rejoice! According to cleveland.com, "the Avon Commons 18,300-square-foot PetSmart store will have a grand opening at 9 a.m. Oct. 8 (next to Target). According to a tweet from Avon Lake Athletics, "congratulations [go] to Shoregals tennis players, Amber and Autumn Korey on winning three matches in doubles Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the OHSAA sectional tournament.
