'Stay Home If You Can' Avon Lake Police Tell Residents Of Storm
A possibly major winter storm could hit northern Ohio Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake police are asking residents to stay home, if they can, during the possible upcoming winter storm.
Between 8 and 12 inches of snow could fall in Lorain County between Wednesday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A layer of ice could form on roads and sidewalks prior to the snow falling.
"If you don't have to be on the roads, stay safe at home," Avon Lake police said on Facebook. "If you're on the road, use extreme caution — the rain, ice and heavy snow forecast can make the roadways hard to navigate."

The Ohio Department of Transportation also warned drivers that traveling could be dangerous during the storm. In addition to the snow and ice, winds could hit 30 mph, reducing visibility and make travel even more hazardous.
In Avon Lake, residents are asked to avoid parking on the street if at all possible.

"Vehicles parked on the streets can make it harder for the plows and salt trucks to do their thing. So if you have other options, please don't park on the street," police said.
Residents are also prohibited from shoveling or blowing snow into the street, police said, noting it is banned under city ordinance.
