Here are the top three stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:
- A big congratulations goes out to Rotarian Diana Savage who will serve the 62 clubs in District 6600 as District Governor for a one-year term beginning July 1. According to Fcnews.org, "Savage has been a Rotarian since 2008 in her hometown of Bryan. Rotary District 6600 covers clubs in northern Ohio from Avon Lake west to the Indiana border. During her time in the Bryan Rotary Club, Savage served as president in 2017, annual auction chair, foundation chair and board member." Congratulations Diana! (Fcnews.org)
- Registered voters in Avon Lake will now have an opportunity, in the November election, to decide if a .25% income tax increase is necessary to support the Avon Lake safety forces and ensure the quality of care and protection the residents rely on, according to The Morning Journal and a news release. "Avon Lake City Council approved the ballot language for a new fire station, police station expansion and infrastructure at the June 27 meeting. Currently, Avon Lake’s income tax rate is 1.5%. If the new rate is approved, .2% will go toward the construction of a new fire station and police station expansion, and the remaining .05% will be invested in city infrastructure, such as roads," according to the Morning Journal and a news release. (The Morning Journal)
- According to Waste Today Magazine, "the Lorain County Solid Waste Management District in Ohio has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help it purchase a shredder, portable sidewall cutter, alligator shears, mulch shredder and other equipment to process collected scrap tire. The grant is one of 18 announced by the Ohio EPA tied to recycling, waste diversion and litter collection efforts. The combined value of the grants is $1.4 million." (Waste Today Magazine)
