Torrential Rainfall Could Cause Flash Flooding In Lorain County

Heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding throughout Northeast Ohio on Friday and early Saturday.

AVON LAKE, OH — A flash flood watch has been issued for Lorain County and much of northern Ohio for Friday and early Saturday.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected throughout the region, the National Weather Service said. Torrential rainfall could drop 1 to 3 inches of precipitation on Northeast Ohio between Friday and Saturday morning.

"Localized higher totals are possible and flash flooding may develop, especially this afternoon through tonight," the agency said in a statement.

In Ohio, the following counties are under a flash flood watch: Ashland, Ashtabula, Crawford, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Hancock, Holmes, Huron, Knox, Lake, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Marion, Medina, Morrow, Ottawa, Portage, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne, Wood, and Wyandot.

The flash flood watch will expire at 8 a.m. Saturday. However, rain and thunderstorms are likely Saturday, the National Weather Service said. Inclement weather should calm by 3 p.m. Saturday.
