📰 News we're reading

1. Stark County's most dangerous intersections ranked (news5cleveland.com) — If you drive through Canton’s Walnut Avenue and 15th Street NE, a new safety study says it’s one of Stark County’s most dangerous intersections, prompting calls for better stop-sign visibility and flashing lights. The report also flags busy Dressler and Everhard, plus a rural Marlboro Township intersection slated for a future roundabout, giving Canton-area drivers a heads-up on where to be extra cautious.

2. Aultman Health System notifies patients of medical data breach (cantonrep.com) — Patients connected to Canton-based Aultman Health System are being notified that a third-party data breach at Cerner Corporation may have exposed names, Social Security numbers and certain medical records. The incident, discovered earlier this year, involved copying sensitive data to an external location. Cerner is offering two years of free identity protection, credit monitoring and internet surveillance services to potentially affected individuals.

3. Dogs rescued from Christmas Day fire at Canton duplex (fox8.com) — Canton firefighters rescued two dogs and helped several residents escape a Christmas night duplex fire on Lawn Avenue SE, where one unit was heavily damaged and the other suffered smoke damage. No residents were hurt, one firefighter had minor injuries, and both units are now unlivable, with the Red Cross stepping in to assist at least one displaced tenant.

4. Autopsy finds Canton man died of natural causes at Stark County Jail (cantonrep.com) — A Canton man who died at the Stark County Jail in May was found by an autopsy to have died from natural causes tied to heart problems and chronic opioid dependency. His family, represented by a Canton spokeswoman, strongly disputes that conclusion and alleges his death was avoidable, while local authorities have yet to release full investigative reports.

5. Mount Union players named D3fooball.com All-Americans (cantonrep.com) — Mount Union football standouts Giovanni Kennedy, Kosta Thrasivoulou and Kaleb Brown have been named D3football.com All-Americans after dominating in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season. Their honors span multiple national All-America lists, and Canton-based Repository sports staff highlight how each senior anchored a key part of the Purple Raiders’ offense or defense.
