CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Despite a change in statewide law, celebratory fireworks are still banned in Cleveland Heights.

Gov. Mike DeWine recently signed a law that will allow Ohioans to legally set off fireworks on certain holidays. That law does not go into effect until July 2022. Individual cities can also set their own fireworks laws.

Cleveland Heights will likely continue to ban the setting off of fireworks even when the statewide law goes into effect. That means residents should not celebrate Christmas or New Year's Eve with a round of fireworks.
