Cleveland Heights funds redesign of ‘Where's My Guardrail?' intersection (cleveland19.com) — Cleveland Heights has set aside $500,000 in its 2026 budget to redesign the dangerous Fairmount and South Taylor intersection where cars have repeatedly crashed into resident John Gall’s home. Planning is expected to wrap up early next year, with construction finished by year’s end, and Gall hopes to help shape the final safety features and placement of new barriers.
   

2. CH council defers Severance rezoning vote (heightsobserver.org) — Cleveland Heights City Council has delayed a crucial vote on rezoning Severance Town Center until early 2026, opting first to hire an outside consultant. The proposed Severance Overlay Zoning would guide a walkable, mixed-use redevelopment aligned with the city’s master plan, and residents, planners, and developers are sharply divided over whether council should move faster or proceed more cautiously.
   

3. Here for you: Heights Libraries opens the book on new director, Gale Koritansky (cleveland.com) — Heights Libraries in Cleveland Heights will welcome new director Gale Koritansky on Feb. 23, following a nationwide search to replace longtime leader Nancy Levin. Koritansky brings decades of experience, including major building projects and outreach expansions, and will help guide plans for Coventry PEACE Campus and future services for the CH-UH community.
   

4. Who will fill Cleveland Heights council vacancy? 11 candidates apply for incoming mayor's seat (cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights residents will soon see a new face on city council, as eleven applicants vie to finish incoming Mayor Jim Petras’ term through 2027. Council plans to interview candidates and appoint a replacement early next year, joining two newly elected members and reshaping the seven-member body after months of political upheaval.
   

5. New Cuyahoga County loan program looks to beef up development along transit routes (crainscleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights is highlighted as one of four Cuyahoga County communities that have already landed major transit-oriented development projects, capturing a large share of recent TOD investment. County officials are now backing similar mixed-use projects along GCRTA routes with a new loan program of up to $2.5 million per project. The initiative aims to boost walkable development, strengthen transit ridership, and attract new residents across the region.
