Cleveland Heights Green Team (CHGT), in partnership with the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and the Lee Road branch of Heights Libraries, will collect broken, burned-out string lights, extension cords and power strips, to benefit the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo's Lights for Lions program. Heights’ residents have recycled more than 3,200 lbs. of string lights and extension cords since 2021 when the recycling drive program was launched.
Starting Saturday December 28th, residents will find drop off bins located at the parking lot entrance of Heights Libraries Lee Road branch. A collection bin is already available at the Nature Center’s Lobby. The recycle drive will end Saturday February 1st. For more information visit www.chgreenteam.org.
In addition, the Green Team is asking residents to save EPS Foam from boxed shipments received throughout and after the Holidays. EPS foam is the rigid and light weight Styrofoam included in boxes used to protect its contents from damage during the handling and transportation process. EPS Foam can be recycled, but it is not accepted in curbside recycling programs in most municipalities including the Heights. EPS Foam is bulky, takes a lot of landfill space and it can take hundreds of years to decompose. CHGT and Heights Libraries are partnering with Edgewater Surf Limited to collect EPS Foam in April as part of their Earth Month in the Heights initiative. Collection details will be published in March.
