Threat Made Toward Heights High On Monday, Police Investigate

Students went to remote learning on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A threat was made toward Heights High School on Monday afternoon on social media.

Students went to remote learning on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution, a district spokesperson told Patch. Police are still investigating the threat.

When the district first learned of the threat on Monday afternoon, Heights High was placed on a Level 2 lockdown meaning all exterior and interior doors are locked and movement within the school was restricted. Here's how the district describes a Level 2 lockdown:

No entry into or exit from the building is allowed. Students are to return to their room immediately. Students who are outside for PE, recess, etc. are to move indoors and to a classroom immediately. Students remain in class. Activity in the classroom continues as usual.

Cleveland Heights police joined with the district's security team to sweep the building during the lockdown and ensure the safety of students and staff.

"We appreciate their quick response and will continue to work with them closely as they investigate the situation," the district said in a statement sent to Patch.

The Heights Schools have a "See Something, Say Something," policy. That means students are encouraged to report anything they see that makes them feel unsafe.

Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said detectives are investigating the source of the threat.
