Travelers brace for delays amid record holiday travel (nbc4i.com) — Holiday travel is surging out of Columbus, with more than 200,000 passengers expected to depart John Glenn International in the next two weeks and some of the busiest days happening this weekend. Local officials urge you to arrive early at CMH, expect possible weather-related delays on connecting flights, and build extra time into any road trips across Ohio.
   

2. Columbus City Schools adopts clean energy policy (nbc4i.com) — Columbus City Schools has adopted a new Safe Green Schools policy that ties building upgrades to clean energy and long-term cost savings, aiming for 100% clean energy by 2035 and carbon-free operations by 2050. Future renovations and new construction must consider solar panels, efficient HVAC, and other green infrastructure, with a dedicated sustainability lead reporting annually to the school board.
   

3. ATF charges 2 in buying firearm switches from undercover agent (abc6onyourside.com) — Federal agents arrested two men after an undercover sting involving illegal machine-gun conversion devices, with both suspects now held in Franklin County Jail and appearing in federal court in Columbus. Investigators say the months-long operation centered on a planned pickup of hundreds of firearm switches at a Sunbury hotel. A judge ordered the men detained while further hearings are scheduled.
   

4. Respect states' rights, new bipartisan group of legislative leaders tells feds • Missouri Independent (missouriindependent.com) — State legislative leaders from across the country just met in Columbus to launch a new bipartisan group focused on defending states’ rights from federal overreach. Their declaration, approved unanimously, urges limits on federal agency rules and executive orders, and highlights tensions over issues like artificial intelligence regulation, Medicaid, and education policy.
   

5. Bacteria Resisting Viral Infection Can Still Sink Carbon to Ocean Floor (newswise.com) — Researchers at Ohio State in Columbus are uncovering how marine bacteria that evolve to resist viral infection can still help move carbon from the ocean surface to the deep sea. Their lab work shows certain “sticky” bacterial mutations may actually boost carbon sinking, even though they slow growth, offering new insight into how microscopic ocean life influences global climate.
