Father charged after 7-week-old child severely injured (abc6onyourside.com) — A child abuse investigation involving a 7-week-old infant has led to felony charges against the baby’s father, following a case that originated with Columbus-based WSYX coverage and Fayette County authorities. Deputies say medical professionals concluded the child’s severe injuries were caused by abuse, and investigators are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
   

2. Columbus firefighter arrested on OVI charge after vehicle found crashed into fire hydrant (nbc4i.com) — A Columbus firefighter has been placed on administrative leave after authorities say he was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and several related offenses following a crash in Licking County. Deputies reported finding the SUV abandoned at a fire hydrant, later locating the firefighter nearby, and Columbus Division of Fire says he’ll face an internal review after the criminal case concludes.
   

3. Local marching band celebrates a legacy at Tournament of Roses Parade (nbc4i.com) — A Columbus-based foundation is taking center stage at the Tournament of Roses Parade to honor beloved former Pickerington band director Mike Sewell. The Mike D. Sewell Memorial Foundation has assembled a national Band Directors Marching Band, led by former Ohio State marching band director Jon Waters, to celebrate music educators and keep Sewell’s legacy alive with a special tribute performance.
   

4. ‘Shallow subsidy pilot program' proves positive for seniors struggling to pay rent (nbc4i.com) — Researchers in Columbus found that a yearlong “shallow subsidy” of $330 a month helped central Ohio seniors on fixed incomes stay housed, avoid emergencies, and better afford basics. The Ohio State-led pilot, run with the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, used ARPA funds to support 20 renters and showed fewer ER visits and stronger housing stability, prompting calls to expand the program.
   

5. Operation Santa's Sleigh brings holiday cheer to Nationwide Children's Hospital (abc6onyourside.com) — Columbus police lit up East Livingston Avenue outside Nationwide Children’s Hospital with a drive-by light show and toy deliveries to brighten the holidays for young patients and their families. The annual Operation Santa’s Sleigh, led by Light Ohio Blue and other safety groups, will continue visiting hospitals and shelters across Central Ohio through the season, aiming to give families a brief break from difficult days.
