Hayes Fourth-Grader Wins Chamber's Essay Contest

Ella Calleri of Hayes captured this year's "Why I Love Lakewood" essay contest sponsored by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. The contest was open to all 4th graders and the Chamber received more than 135 entries from Lakewood Schools and Lakewood Catholic Academy. 

Ella's was chosen best overall based on its originality, composition, descriptive language and proper grammar (read her essay here). As the winner, Ella will receive $100 in cash plus the honor of "flipping the switch" on the holiday lights with Santa and Mayor Ed FitzGerald at Light Up Lakewood on Dec. 4. Congratulations Ella!
