Animal Emergency Clinic in Mentor Plans to Construct New Facility

The business recently received a conditional use permit from the city's planning commission

A Mentor animal hospital plans on constructing a new facility just west of the building it has been operating out of for about 25 years.

Animal Emergency Clinic Northeast received a conditional use permit and preliminary site plan approval from the city to move forward with its construction plans at 8240 Tyler Blvd. The vacant, 1.2-acre site will be home to a 7,360 square-foot emergency care animal hospital that also offers veterinary specialty medicine.

Members of the Mentor Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the permit and preliminary plan, Planning Director Ric Spence said.

Other services will include dermatological, radiological and surgical specialties for animals, according to a planning memo. For now, the clinic considers itself an after-hours business, open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weeknights and from noon on Saturday to 8 a.m. on Monday. In the future, Dr. Joseph Doyle told the commission he would like to expand into a 24-hour operation.

No significant change in employment figures is expected, and the clinic will not offer long-term boarding for animals.

The clinic will have several requirements during the construction phase, including building and stormwater permits and developing an erosion control plan as part of the next plan submission.
