Another Earthquake Detected Near Mentor, 3rd Felt This Month
Thursday's earthquake was a 2.1 magnitude, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed.
MENTOR, OH — For the third time this month, Mentor and surrounding communities got a startling shake to start the day.
A 2.1-magnitude earthquake was detected in the region Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed. The quake started in Lakeline, near the coast of Eastlake, at approximately 4 a.m.
Residents in Mentor Facebook groups confirmed feeling the quick shake. Similar confirmation came from residents in Willoughby and Eastlake. It appears to have woken several sleeping dogs, according to social media posts.

This is the third earthquake to rattle Lake County and surrounding communities this month. The first quake was detected Jan. 4 and reached 2.7 on the magnitude scale. A second earthquake followed on Jan. 5, reaching a 2 on the magnitude scale.
Previous earthquakes in the area have been associated with a fault line in Lake Erie, according to WKYC.

The largest earthquake in Ohio history is believed to have hit 5.4 magnitude, Ohio History Central said. That quake hit the western portion of the state in 1937. Since recording began, Ohio has had more than 200 earthquakes that were at least 2.0 in magnitude.
