Bald Eagles, Free Comics & The Top 25: A Weekend Planner

There's much more happening this weekend than Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby

Where/When: , noon to 5 p.m., Sunday

Why Go: All are invited to celebrate the magnificent bald eagle with activities this Sunday at the Mentor Marsh Nature Center.

Visit mini-stations to learn more about eagles and take part in hands-on activities: build a nest, hold a replica skull in your hands, learn more about bald eagles and bird biology.

No registration is required to attend open house activities at the Nature Center. However, people will need to register for one of three guided hikes to overlook the bald eagle nest from the marsh's trails at 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m.

The 2-mile hike is on a rustic and sometimes muddy trail and is not recommended for young children. Spotting scopes will be provided. Bring your own binocular or borrow a pair from the Marsh.

Why Go: The show will include several numbers the group has performed throughout the year plus more than 30 minutes of new material.

There is something for everyone – pop, Motown, doo-wop, ballads, swing and more.

Where/When: Comics and Friends in , Saturday

Why Go: G.I. Joe comic book artists Josh Medors and Sean Forney will appear at Comics and Friends to sign comics on Saturday as part of Free Comic Book Day.

The local creators of Vampire Gazette, Chris Lambert and David Russell, will also be at the shop.

Across the country, all major comic book publishers including Marvel, DC, Dark Hose, Image and Archie offer a variety of free comics on May 5 that were created specially for the event.

Where/When:Β 1 Liberty St (Veteran's Park), Painesville, OH, 6:30 p.m. today (May 3)

Why Go: Prayers will be spoken for the nation, local government, communities, and schools.

There will be a mix of hymns and songs o fpraise, led by Pastor Carrie Garland of Painesville Assembly of God. The service is created by UNO (Unity in Northeast Ohio), in which at least 20 areaΒ churches will be represented.

The gathering will take place rain or shine. Those who attend should bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on.
