• Mentor Public Library hosts history talk on Declaration of Independence (news-herald.com) — Mentor Public Library is kicking off a yearlong celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with a free history talk on the Declaration of Independence at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Main Branch on Mentor Avenue. Historian and librarian John Foster will explore the document’s 1776 roots and its meaning today, but space is limited, so residents must register in advance.
   

• Mentor vs. Solon girls basketball: Cardinals push ahead with strong third quarter in 85-64 victory (news-herald.com) — Mentor High’s girls basketball team powered past Solon, 85–64, with a huge third-quarter surge that turned a close game into a comfortable home win. Ashlyn McKinney led Mentor with 22 points and nine rebounds, while four teammates also scored in double figures. The Cardinals, now 8–1, next host Cleveland Heights on January 3.
