Damaging Winds Could Bring Down Power Lines In Lake County

Expect downed power lines throughout northern Ohio, the National Weather Service warned.

MENTOR, OH — Powerful winds could knock down tree branches and power lines between Friday afternoon and Saturday night.

"Damaging winds will bring down numerous trees and power lines. Some property damage likely. Widespread power outages are likely. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," the National Weather Service warned.

Southwest winds will average between 25 and 35 mph, with peak gusts hitting 55 to 60 mph, the forecast said. A high wind warning has been issued for Lake County and much of northern Ohio and will remain in place through Saturday night at 11 p.m.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive," the National Weather Service said.
