Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Driver in 2011 Crash

The estate's attorney says the driver's negligence led to funeral costs and anguish

The estate of a woman who died in a two-vehicle crash in Mentor nearly two years ago has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of the driver.

Danielle Ohler's estate filed the lawsuit this week against the family of Alexander Martin, who also died in the crash, according to The News-Herald. The Ohler estate's family attorney, Neil R. Wilson, charges that Martin's negligence led to funeral expenses and mental anguish, according to the lawsuit.

The family seeks $25,000 in damages, plus attorney fees.

Perry resident Martin's 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt struck 72-year-old Mentor resident Dilip Maniar's Mazda on Aug. 10, 2011 after Martin crossed the median on Heisley Road. Ohler, a Grand River resident believed to be Martin's girlfriend, rode in the Cobalt. Martin, Ohler and Maniar were all pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the document, Martin was driving at 67 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. Lake County Common Pleas Judge Richard L. Collins Jr. has been assigned to the case.
