Girl Scouts Earn Art Badges At Mentor Public Library

The girls made their CD cover art and collages

Girl Scouts from local troops earned their art patch during the Calling All Girl Scout Artists program at .

Guest speaker Kelly Finley, a teacher , taught the scouts about the elements of design used in a drawing, the relationship between primary and secondary colors and common materials used to create paintings, drawings and other visual art.

As part of the program, the girls made their own CD cover art and a collage representing their self-portrait or the portrait of another person, which they were able to take home with them.

Kristen Halick, a Girl Scout Cadet of Mentor Troop 1486, said she loves art and thought the Calling All Girl Scout Artist program was fun.

"I liked the CD cover portrait best," she said. "I'm doing fine art at next year."
