Volleyball, lacrosse and football players announced their collegiate choices on Wednesday

Three Lake Catholic athletes gathered Wednesday announced where the next chapter of their lives would take place.

Seniors Sammy Kline, Kirsten Lorek and John Stepec will all compete in NCAA Division I athletics this fall. Sammy and Kirsten will both attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh to play volleyball and lacrosse, respectively. John will play football for the University of Toledo.

"Their hard work has definitely paid off," Lake Catholic Athletic Director Sam Colacarro said. "They've made themselves, their families and Lake Catholic proud with all of their efforts."

Comfort played a key role in the students' decisions. Sammy said an indescribable element of the Duquesne campus felt right. Meanwhile John, who will play defensive end for the Rockets, said the Toledo staff made him feel like he had known them for much longer than the duration of the recruiting process.

"I'm just proud of her, and thrilled," Carol Lorek said Kirsten. "Just really happy for her, but she's going to have to work hard.
