Local Girl Who Is Fighting Cancer Gets To Meet Her Hero

After hundreds, maybe even thousands, of tweets in her support, Erin Potter recently met Justin Bieber

Wishes come true.

They sometimes require a little help from strangers but they do come true.

Erin Potter -- an 8-year-old girl from Kirtland who is fighting her third occurrence of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia -- had one of her wishes fulfilled Tuesday when she met pop star Justin Bieber during a concert in Chicago.

It was a moment that was a long time coming -- a moment that might have never happened had it not been for a lot of people who care about Erin, including some who have never met her.

For months now, people have been tweeting the hashtags #bieber4potter‬ and ‪#BiebsMeetErin to try to get the singer's attention.

Along the way, they got retweets of support from athletes Josh Cribbs and Terrell Owens, comedians Chelsea Handler and Aziz Ansari and castmembers of The Jersey Shore.

A friend of the family also started a Facebook page that has attracted almost 24,000 subscribers.

The movement caught the attention of some good Samaritans who gave the Potter family Bieber tickets for Chicago, as well as Bieber tickets for Nov. 20 in Pittsburgh.

"Both sets of tickets have been donated by absolute strangers who have just heard of her story and love of JB," said Erin's mom, Jeni Potter, previously.

In addition to enjoying the concert, Erin and her family got to meet Bieber and have their picture taken with him.

The Potter family, as always, were very thankful -- not just to Bieber, but to all the people who made the moment possible.

In related news, the Potter family is raising money for new bone marrow transplant rooms at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital by having a fundraiser called Champions for Hope this Nov. 17 at Severance Hall in Cleveland.

Parker Hannifin has already donated $50,000 toward the cause -- enough for an entire transplant room. However, the Potters hope to raise enough money for at least two more rooms, Jeni Potter said.

Those who are interested in donating can learn more at the Champions for Hope web site.

Finally, Erin's health is doing well, according to her Caring Bridge site. She is coming up on the 100-day milestone since her most recent bone marrow transplant.

"She just continues to amaze me and she shows me what it is like to be strong, to take one day - one moment - at a time," Jeni Potter wrote of her daughter. "To enjoy each day that she feels good. To love each second that she and her sisters are laughing. All of our girls are my source of strength. They remind me to keep looking up."
