Mentor High Majorettes Celebrate 2nd Consecutive National Championship

The Mentor Schools Board of Education also acknowledged the district's national merit semifinalist and commended students

The Mentor Schools Board of Education congratulated the Mentor High School Majorettes squad Tuesday for winning a national championship for the second consecutive year.

They won their first national title at the Twirling Unlimited International Championship last year in Canton. This year, they competed again in Canton and defended their title.

The team also traveled this summer to the University of Notre Dame to one of the biggest baton competitions in the country.

More than 4,000 twirlers competed in events that included both high school and college divisions.

The Mentor High Majorettes competed in two events, winning second place in the half-time competition and first in the High School Dance Twirl Team National Championship.

The team is coached by Kelly Hoellein. Its members are Kristen Shirey, Alycia Freeman, Ashley Burkin, Courtney Burkin, Amy Arslanian and Alexa Arslanian.

Also at the Board meeting:

  • the board recognized , as well as the district's commended students -- Jenna Bellassai, Heather Bosau, Fred Buse, Josephine DiNovo, Andrew Fraser, Charlotte Klimovich, Hannah Koerner, Leila Mansour, Nathan Sulecki, Lisa Tan and Nicholas Young.
