Police: Man Pretends To Have Gun After Stealing Video Games

A man is accused of stealing more than $2,000 worth of video games Tuesday from the Super Kmart in Mentor and then bluffing he had a gun when security chased him.

Store security spotted Darius Anderson, 35, of Cleveland, taking the 38 video games and followed him into the parking lot when he tried to leave, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said.

The guard ordered Anderson to stop. Instead, Anderson reached behind his back and said "I have you now," Allen said

The security guard returned to the store and called the police for help as Anderson drove away.

Mentor Police officers spotted and stopped Anderson's car, which had the license plates taken off, near the Route 2 entrance from Heisley Road, Allen said.

When police searched Anderson's car, they did not find a gun. However, they did find four blank prescription pages, Allen said.

Anderson was charged with robbery, theft, possession of criminal tools -- in this case, the "criminal tool" is the car without license plates -- and illegal processing of drug documents.

Anderson was arraigned Wednesday morning in Mentor Municipal Court. Judge John Trebets set his bond at $120,000, which was not posted.
