Poll: What Should Be Done With Lost Nation Airport?

The airport's sponsor -- which is the city of Willoughby but could become the LCPA soon -- has options regarding the airport and its property; but each of the options come with a caveat.

They could:

• leave the airport running as it is with two runways. However, the airport houses fewer than a third of the airplanes it did at its peak and the aviation industry does not seem to be recovering.
• try to close the airport in four years. However, the FAA and the Department of Justice could sue the sponsor to keep the airport open. (Airports -- like most things involving multijurisdictional bureaucracy -- are complicated. For a better explanation of why it's difficult to close an airport, )
• close one runway and pursue more tenants that aren't tied to the aviation industry. But even this compromise comes with a caveat. Ron Traub, the city's director of economic development, has warned that there might not be much interest from businesses in the property.
