Poll: What Should Be Done With Lost Nation Airport?
What would you recommend doing with Lake County's airport and its property?

Mentor City Council and administration, along with Lake County Port Authority Executive Director John Loftus, held a work session Tuesday in .
The airport's sponsor -- which is the city of Willoughby but could become the LCPA soon -- has options regarding the airport and its property; but each of the options come with a caveat.
They could:

- leave the airport running as it is with two runways. However, the airport houses fewer than a third of the airplanes it did at its peak and the aviation industry does not seem to be recovering.
- try to close the airport in four years. However, the FAA and the Department of Justice could sue the sponsor to keep the airport open. (Airports -- like most things involving multijurisdictional bureaucracy -- are complicated. For a better explanation of why it's difficult to close an airport, )
- close one runway and pursue more tenants that aren't tied to the aviation industry. But even this compromise comes with a caveat. Ron Traub, the city's director of economic development, has warned that there might not be much interest from businesses in the property.
