Two drivers face felony charges after being arrested by Mentor Police Department during the weekend

Two drivers face felony charges after they were arrested by Mentor Police officers during the weekend.

Both are accused of driving their car while under the influence of a drug.

Police arrested Joseph Simcic, 61, of Painesville, on Saturday evening while he was driving east on Route 2 near the Heisley Road exit.

Simcic had to stop driving when his left tire fell off and rolled across the road, Mentor Police Sgt. Mike Majernik said.

When police came to help him, they noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath, Majernik said.

Simcic admitted that he had drank a few drinks at a bar in Cleveland, as well as taken medication that was prescribed to him, Majernik said.

Simcic provided a blood sample so authorities could test it for alcohol but the results are not back yet, Majernik said.

Simcic has five previous convictions for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, including four in the last six years.

Police also charged him with driving without a license.

Then, on Sunday, police arrested 41-year-old Kelly McClain of Mentor.

McClain was driving on Hendrix Road when she lost control of her car and hit the median, Majernik said.

When police responded to the crash, she admitted to snorting Percocet beforehand, Majernik said.

Police charged McClain with a felony count of drug possession and a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Both Simcic and McClain were arraigned Monday morning in . Judge John Trebets set Simcic's bond at $23,000 and McClain's at $12,500.

Neither suspect had posted bond as of Monday afternoon.

Simcic's next court date is scheduled for March 26; McClain's is Thursday.
