Unemployment Rate Drops In Mentor & Lake County

The city of Mentor's unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest point since October 2008.

The city's rate in September was 5.1 percent -- down from 5.3 percent in August and 5.6 percent in July, according to the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.

By comparison, the Mentor's unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in September 2011.

Meanwhile, Lake County's unemployment rate dropped from 5.9 percent in August, 2012, to 5.7 percent in September.

During the same span of time, the state of Ohio's unemployment rate dropped from 6.8 to 6.5 percent.

The city of Mentor still has the lowest unemployment rate for any city in Ohio with a population of 50,000 or more. Overall, it is tied for third lowest overall (with Gahana and Westerville) for any of the 65 cities for which the state calculates its unemployment rate.

Mentor's unemployment rate peaked in January and February of 2010 at 8.7 percent.
