MENTOR, OH — The Mentor Giant Eagle pharmacy now requires all COVID-19 vaccine patients to book an appointment before coming to the pharmacy.

As vaccine boosters are released to older Ohioans and certain medically vulnerable residents, Giant Eagle is anticipating a greater-than-usual demand for vaccines. To that end, patients will now need to book an appointment online before getting their booster shot.

Appointments can be booked through the Giant Eagle website.

Here's who now qualifies for a vaccine booster, according to the Ohio Department of Health:

  • People 65 or older
  • People living in long-term care settings
  • People 50 to 64 should receive a vaccine booster if they have certain underlying medical conditions
  • People 18 to 49 can receive a vaccine booster if they have certain underlying medical conditions
  • People 18 or older who are at an increased risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their job may receive a booster.

"At this time, booster doses are authorized only for fully vaccinated Pfizer vaccine recipients who are at high-risk for exposure to COVID-19 or the complications from severe disease," the Ohio Department of Health noted.
