Woman Accused Of Driving Drunk With 2 Kids In The Car

Mentor woman faces charges of child endangerment and operating a vehicle while intoxicated

A Mentor woman is accused of driving drunk while on an errand to buy some vodka with two children in the back seat of her car.

Police pulled over 21-year-old Amandalyn Tomcany Friday evening. Mentor Police Lt. Ken Zbiegien said that Tomcany was swerving over the median while driving west on Mentor Avenue and almost sideswiped another car.

Tomcany pulled into the parking lot of a liquor and wine store on Mentor Avenue. Then a man left her car and went into the store.

While parked, a police officer approached Tomcany. She told him they went to the store to buy some vodka.

The officer, suspecting Tomcany was drunk, asked her to take a Breathalyzer test.

She agreed to take the test and had a breath-alcohol content of .174, Zbiegien said. That is more than twice the legal limit to drive.

Two children were in the back seat -- a 9-month-old infant and a 4-year-old boy, Zbiegien said. Both were properly restrained in their respective car seats.

Police charged Tomcany with drunk driving and two counts of child endangerment. She has no previous convictions for either charge.
