Back To School: Shaker Heights 2021-22 School Calendar

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Shaker Heights, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in the Shaker Heights Schools.

The first day of school for most students in Shaker Heights is Aug. 25. Students in grades 1 through 12 will report to classes that day.

The Ohio Department of Health recently recommended students return to classrooms in-person, but with masks on. The department's chief medical officer — Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff — also recommended schools flow in as much natural air as possible, institute regular sanitation of shared surfaces, and implement social distancing wherever possible.

The Shaker Heights Schools have not made a decision on a masking policy, but could announce a policy by mid-August, a district spokesperson told Patch.

Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 22- Nov. 26

Winter Break: Dec. 20 - Jan. 2

Spring Break: March 28 - April 1

Last Day: June 9

Public schools in Ohio are barred from requiring a COVID-19 vaccination for students or staff, at least until the vaccines receive full FDA approval. All three COVID-19 vaccines — from Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson — were granted emergency approval, but not full approval.
