City Of Shaker Heights: City Celebrates October 6 Energy Efficiency Day And October 9 Rooftop Solar Day

The City of Shaker Heights will celebrate Energy Efficiency Day on October 6 and Rooftop Solar Day on October 9.

“As we work toward making Shaker Heights a more sustainable community, we want to help residents understand the impact that sustainable energy choices can have on our environment,” said Mayor Weiss. “Even simple steps, like using LED bulbs, can make a difference when we all work together.”

On October 6, the City will join a nationwide network of governments, organizations and businesses in celebrating the 6th Annual Energy Efficiency Day (energyefficiencyday.org) by sharing information on social media at the hashtag ##EEDay2021. The City will offer ideas for how residents can improve the energy efficiency of their Shaker Heights homes and also highlight the City’s own efforts to be more sustainable in its energy usage. In 2020, the City adopted a 100 percent renewable electric plan for all City buildings and streetlights; in addition, the City has strived to improve the energy efficiency of City buildings by, for example, using LED lighting and earlier this year purchased its first electric vehicle. Residents are invited to share their own energy efficiency success stories on social media using the hashtag #EEDay2021.

On October 9, 12-3 pm, the Energy Subcommittee of City Council’s Sustainability Committee will hold a Shaker Heights Rooftop Solar Tour to showcase residential solar installations in the community. Homeowners who have installed rooftop solar will be on hand to talk about their experience. To take the self-guided tour, pick up a map from 12-1:30 pm at the southwest corner of Van Aken Blvd. and Lee Rd. (the green space next to Main Library).
