COVID-19 Vaccines Required For Staff At Shaker Heights Schools

All Shaker Heights Schools employees must be vaccinated by Nov. 1.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — All Shaker Heights Schools staff will have until Nov. 1 to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

The district's new vaccine mandate for employees was unanimously approved during the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night. Anyone who refuses to get a vaccine must instead provide a negative COVID-19 test once per week, News 5 reported.

Shaker Heights Schools spokespersons said the district's staff is already 80-85 percent vaccinated.

The district's decision to mandate vaccines for staff comes as a new Ohio law forbids public schools from requiring students to get vaccinated...sort of, Fox 8 reported. House Bill 244 prohibits schools from requiring students to get a vaccine that has not received full FDA approval.

Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has yet received full FDA approval, and it has only been approved for use in people as young as 16.
