While Shaker Heights has an active program to control mosquito larvae, the city's health department only sprays under extreme circumstances.
Health Department Sanitarian John Lunter said the city has an active program to keep catch basins, ponds and other standing-water sources, which are mosquito breeding grounds, free of larvae.
Spraying, which handles the adult mosquitos, would only be considered under if there was a major disease outbreak or some other public health threat, Lunter siad.
"Spraying is not anything routine or anything that would be considered lightly," he said. "That's not something we do on a regular basis."  Â
