Shaker Schools Alumni Hall Of Fame Announces New Class

This year's crop of inductees includes a Grammy award winner, political activists, spiritual and political leaders and more.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Schools Alumni Hall of Fame announced its newest class of inductees this week.

The Hall of Fame Class of 2021 includes political activists, a judge, lawyers, corporate leaders, spiritual leaders, and a Grammy award-winning opera singer. This year's inductees will be honored during a ceremony on May 21 at the Shaker Heights Country Club.

This year's induction ceremony is open to the public. Tickets are $70 and must be purchased by May 16.

Inductees will then address the students of Shaker Heights High School during an assembly on May 23.

  • Robert "Bob" Barber — A political activist who helped free a U.S. citizen wrongfully imprisoned in Argentina in the 1970s. Graduated in 1967.
  • Hilary Beard — An award-winning writer, public speaker, trainer, coach and faith-walker, whose work focuses on racial equity and bias. Graduated in 1980.
  • The Honorable Carolyn Gold — An elected Judge to the San Francisco Superior Court, whose career included housing rights advocacy and running the Right to Civil Counsel program for tenants being evicted in San Francisco. Graduated in 1974.
  • Mark Davies Griffin — The Inspector General and Chief Ethics Officer for Cuyahoga County, whose work focuses on defending voting rights and battling public corruption. Graduated in 1981.
  • Ayesha Bell Hardaway — A legal scholar, analyst and professor of law whose work focuses on social justice and police reform. Graduated in 1993.
  • Andrea Johnson — A conservationist, climate activist and tropical forest expert who works to prevent deforestation and secure land rights for indigenous peoples. Graduated in 1994.
  • Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III — A preacher, activist and author whose work focuses on mass incarceration, environmental justice and economic inequality. Graduated in 1988.
  • Cecilia H. Render — A corporate philanthropist who is currently executive director of the Nordson Corporate Foundation, which supports educational opportunities and advancement. Graduated in 1979.
  • Thomas Young — A Grammy and Clio award-winning lyric opera tenor who has performed on Broadway and around the world. Graduated in 1964.

Nominations for the 2022 Shaker Schools Hall of Fame Class are open and must be submitted by Friday, April 15 for consideration.
