Shaker Students Dominate At State Chess Tournament

Several Shaker students placed during the Ohio High School/Middle School Chess competition earlier this month

Shaker Heights High School students had their opponents in check during the Ohio High School/Middle School Chess competition earlier this month in Montgomery.

According to the Shaker Schools web site:

The Championship Division team including Zane Eisen, Nick Haubrich, Leo Izen, Rohit Kumar, Daniel Luo, and Donald Peyton Turner took second place in the state, only trailing Mason.

Meanwhile, the Shaker's Reserve Division team of Zoe Curtis, Alijah Douglas, Jonathan Holloway, Joshua Lugo-Ortiz, Kevin Taylor, and Jimmy Zhu captured the state title in their division.

Additionally team captain Zane Eisen (fourth place), Joshua Lugo-Ortiz (fourth place), and Zoe Curtis (fifth place) placed in the top five in individual competitions.
