SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — On Monday, residents and businesses in Shaker Heights will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.
As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Shaker Heights.
Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our city:

- Shaker Heights municipal administrative offices will be closed.
- Shaker Heights police and fire departments closed to public. Emergency service will be active.
- Shaker Heights Libraries will be closed.
- Shaker Heights Schools will be closed.
- Trash collection will be delayed one day.
A special Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration was organized by the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and University Hospitals. The program featured a speech from Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, musical performances, an interfaith video and more.
